Probably true on the slow, windy roads. Though it should be accurate on the autopistas...at least it was when we visited in 2008.
Are the autopistas in Mexico comparable to highways here? I ask because in Venezuela the highways were pieces of **** with many potholes and in horrid conditions....also a lot of "malandros" hiding in the wilderness trying to mug you and rob you. Though Mexico is less of a ****hole than Venezuela.

They look alright to me..though Street View can't speak as personal experience.

When were you in Venezuela last?
When I visited, I thought the highways were amazing - I rode on some long stretches of Interstate-level highways. Compared to northern Brazil, where I had come from, Venezuela was like the land of milk and honey - it was soooo nice.

I was there about 1998? When did you go? My dad went recently and he said that they suggested not driving in certain stretches out in the "Llanos" because of muggings and poor road conditions. I find it surprising that you had a good experience with the roads there....family members that still live over there tell me how horrible the roads are.
Though, in larger cities the roads are noticeably in better conditions than out in the country.

Almost a decade before that....lol. I imagine things were a lot better back then, due to the 80's oil boom. The had a major currency crisis right when I got there, which meant everything was super cheap - I do mean cheap. It was awesome...lol.
