Well, Slavs are pretty varied anyway. From Russia to Belarus, down to Macedonia and Bulgaria, but are tied together by the connection to the Slavonic tribes. In the case of the South Slavs, there a stronger Neolithic component, as well as a strong Illyrian connection.

edit: BTW, did you know that the CIA funded the Social Democrats for long after the war? Better a bit on the left than radically on the left they thought. As Finland didn't take any Marshall Aid due to the opposition of the USSR, the CIA had a hard time just handing out cash. So instead the US donated goods which were rationed, like coffee, which the SDP officials sold on the black market to fund their actions.
I don't even consider Poles, Czech and Slovaks 'real' Slavs. Too Central European.
I feel closer to Persians than Finns. Ukrainians and southern Russians are from the areas formerly inhabited by Scythians, an Iranian people. The Scythians in Eastern Europe were eventually Slavicized.
