1984 was before I was born.... And can you prove the shooter's political affiliation?
Easy:
On the day of the attacks, X electronically distributed a compendium of texts entitled 2083: A European Declaration of Independence, describing his far-right militant ideology.[9][10][11][12] In them, he lays out a worldview encompassing opposition to Islam and feminism.[13][14] The texts call Islam and "cultural Marxism" the enemy, and advocates the deportation of all Muslims from Europe based on the model of the Beneš decrees.[15][16] X wrote that his main motive for the atrocities was to market his manifesto.[17] X has later identified himself as a fascist[18] and a national socialist,[19] stating that he previously exploited counterjihadist rhetoric in order to protect ethno-nationalists.[20] He also states that he has never personally identified as a Christian, and calls his religion Odinism.

LA isn't actually that dangerous contrary to the stereotype.. San Francisco I believe has a much higher homicide rate than Los Angeles, about 8-9 per 100,000 people which is baffling for such a 'rich city'.
San Francisco is more like 6-7 per 100,000. Los Angeles is slightly higher.
Yes, it's still odd why its murder rate is so high. Part of it as said is there's a large population of mentally ill and homeless people — on the west edge of downtown is the Tenderloin full of welfare housing and support services. It's the scariest neighborhood I've seen in the city center of an American city, though I've probably missed worse cities. Walking south of downtown, I passed by drug clincs for addicts. Piece of advice: don't walk around the Tenderloin late at night drunk...a friend did so and got mugged. Murder seems to be concentrated:
1) In and around downtown, probably related to homeless types maybe something drug-related. Death by shooting is relatively low, death by "other" often beating is almost as common.
2) Mission District — has a large population of affluent young tech workers, and homeless people (spillover from Tenderloin-like districts?) in the north part and some gang issues. I clicked on two murders. One was a homeless guy who got stabbed to death. Another was a drive by shooting.
3) Several forgotten neighborhoods in the southeastern corner of the city, which aren't rich
Oakland looks much worse on the map, the murder rate numbers don't include Oakland. The Oakland police department listed murder victims by race. For one year, I calculated the murder rate (by victim) by race in Oakland. The black murder rate was extremely high, among the highest in the country for large cities, at around 60 per 100k. San Francisco may have a similarly high black murder rate. I have a friend who lives on the edge of Oakland — passing through there at night she's gotten followed several times. Bicycling allowed her to get away.

LA is much harder if one is homeless.
Portland's murder rate is much lower than San Francisco; not much higher than typical Canadian cities. Los Angeles has a large homeless population as well "skid row".

Most Mexicans go to Oakland since SD is probably too expensive for them.
Murderous Mexicans don't account for the lower than average murder rates in South Western US cities - SD, El Paso, Austin and others.
Your racism is evident, though. I don't think you should be murdered for it; but at the very least I would give you a severe beating (and a reminder that Hillary will be in charge this time next year).
Only a few miles separates them, but the murder rates for Detroit, MI and Windsor, Ontario are so vastly different. Overall Canadian homicide rates are only slightly higher than the Western European average, but in the US you have around 4 or 5 times the likelihood of getting murdered, and when you look at big cities like Milwaukee or Miami the difference is vast.
Even in New York City (despite a big reduction) you're still 5 times more likely to be whacked than in London, England.
That's a silly way to word to it, most people murdered are murdered by someone in their social circle, not at random though the random ones are make headlines more. If the average Londoner moved to NYC would his chance of being murdered increase by 4 to 5 times? I doubt it.
A few New Years ago, nine people were shot in New York City. None died, as drunk people have bad aim. A couple did die for a car accident (driving drunk on an expressway at 100 mph ends badly). Another drunk guy got angry at the crowd he was with at the bar, left, got into his car and drove into the crowd standing outside the bar. No one died, but several were injured.
