My summers are pretty variable with frequent cold and warm fronts. June has had an average high as low as 59 F before and July has had average highs as high as 86 F before.

I think it's about perfect. A cooler than normal month is not too cool, and a hotter than normal not a furnace. The record is 108, so it might occationally get really hot. Likewise the record low is -14, but these are very rare events.
Holy ****.....I hope that is a typo lol.

Record high during JJA in my climate is 101 F and the record low is 11 F. Both rare events too.

I assume he meant a record low for the year, then it sounds reasonable. My ideal climate for having a snowy winter is -5°F

Issue with relatively mild summers such as mine and Ariete's ideal climate is the summers aren't hot enough to warm up water to make them swimmable except for a month or month and a half. Mean temperature of 71°F doesn't get you water in the high 70s except for some unshaded lakes for a short time.

I go for polar bear swims here every year in 45F water... I love swimming so much that I'll do that. Imagine if I'm swimming in the 72F water of Miami in winter... it would feel like a bathtub

An ideal summer wouldn't have temperatures hot enough to make you want to cool off. The air is already fresh and nice outside.

Though I will admit, swimming is fun. Maybe there's a lot of indoor pools in my dream climate....lol

That's the all-time record low. A normal year drops to around 4F, and the annual record high is around 96F. The average low in January is 23F.

Oh I kind of figured, since we were talking about summer I was assuming that you meant the summer record low is -14....lol

Record low for Barrow in summer is 4°F. It's kinda hard to get really cold with 24 hour daylight. Svalbard 16°F

I wonder what it would be for the North Pole? No weather station but reanalysis data is available. There's no way for a place with summer highs in the 80s to have subzero temperatures, it's probably a physically impossible combination in today's earth. [I like realism in fake climate]

Hmm, good point. Never thought of that. But well, let's assume that we have some shallow bays which allows for higher water temps. And my dream climate is, uhm, 48N?, so the summer days are long, allowing water to heat up. Hmm, the Baltic Sea shores here had a SST of 77F in 2014 though the mean air temp was 69F.
