I chose Wellington, though summers are kinda cool.

Istanbul is farther north and cooler than I thought it was.

For example, the farthest south place in Canada is just slightly
farther north, Middle Island, Ontario at 41.7N (in the middle of Lake Erie).

Also, Istanbul is cooler than Rimini and Rimini is cooler than Nice.

Wellington for the cooler summers, higher rainfall, and lower sunshine hours.

Istanbul has a pretty decent climate though.

I thought Istanbul had summer highs around 28-29c? Istanbul wins anyway.

Both cities have a very similar january in terms of temperature and sunshine hours (Paris has less sunshine, but considering it is at 48N, the percentage should be very close), Istanbul is just much rainier in that month.

So i would not say that they are vastly different...

That's true

The Climate table on Wikipedia isn't giving stats for the city itself but for Sariyer which is a suburb located in the hills north of the city. ( Ca 150 m asl)
Istanbul ( the lower elevations) itself has summer temperatures (and dewpoints) which are comparable to those in New York.
Atatürk Havalimani Airport is located in the European part of the city.

Sabiha Gökçen Airport is located in the Asian Part
https://weatherspark.com/averages/32452/Istanbul-Turkey

I don't know why they're not acessible anymore, but here are climate stats for the city.

I had the same thoughts. Interestingly, it is a bit cooler there in reality.
But overall, I chose Istanbul here for sure.

oh yeah, 28-29c average high in July seems a lot more normal for a city situated at 41 N surrounded by water.

Not very hot or warm in my eyes and trawling through NIWA records, Christchurch and Dunedin - in the South Island - have recorded much higher values and Wellington, compared to these two, consistently records lowest "high" maximums hence the saying a jumper and jacket is needed every-time one visits windy Wellington.

I'd take the snow anytime over the wind.
