It's pointless trying to reason with someone who believes temperature records have been tampered with, because they'll accept any data that fits their narrative and dismiss anything that doesn't as fraudulent.

It's the old conspiracy theory principle of lack of evidence for the conspiracy being taken as evidence - elephants are never found hiding in treetops because they're so good at it.

But it's all pretty irrelevant now. The discussion moved on long ago. No one really takes that stuff seriously any more. It's a bit like Noah's flood geology - a few people still believe it but it's long ceased to be of any consequence.
The "data" for KNYC, just as an example, shows a steady, day by day rise during April, for example, with no downticks from day to day. I looked at other months; pretty much the same story. An actual mathematical average of the same date for thirty years would show some "jumpiness." For example, Easter Sunday 1976 and a similar, maybe the same date in 2002 the temperature in Central Park hit 96°. Those kind of numbers have to create some lurches. The absence of lurches in any month is telling. This is how graphing is done, but it can create some distortions.

Though I am a climate skeptic I am open to reason.

Doesn't matter. Daily averages may be smoothed, but monthly averages are not.

Interestingly the 1941-1970 and 1951-1980 average highs at MDW have summer average highs of 82.7F and 82.6F respectively. I wish I could get a hold of the Midway averages from the 1931-1960 period. I bet that would show the hottest summer time max temps over any 30 year average

The current 1991-2020 averages at MDW is 82.9F at the airport and 83.2F at Frank W's Coop observing site just outside the airport.

Edit

so I found the 1931-1960 averages for Midway

June: 80.9F
July: 85.6F
Aug: 84.2F

Summer average max: 83.6F
