Yeah it feels like when I looked last week at this time the forecast was pretty much 'summer light' for the first 2 weeks of April, but starting early this week it seemed like with every model run it was taken back a bit and now what we're left with is a few sorta warm-ish days next week and then a flood of mediocre weather days for the next 10 days thereafter.
Definitely leaning closer to the 'bad April' side of the pendulum for now.
Fortunately for us, even a "bad April" isn't too bad. Last year's was only marginally warmed than March. But that still meant a mean max of 70.4. Our coolest dating back to 1998 was 1998 itself with a mean max of 69.1. 2018 was 2nd coolest with 69.8. Every other April of the last 20 something years has at least been 70 or above.
It's actually a pretty narrow range. Coolest of 69.1. Warmest of 78.2. For a month that features constant fronts, it's pretty consistent.
Even with a full strong April sun angle and zero clouds, it's struggling to get past the mid 40s in metro Philadelphia. Forecast high is still 54F - the grass is deep green now and starting to really grow, but all trees are still mostly bare with some green buds present on the early blooming trees
Still below average today with a high/low of 54/34 today, but at least we’ve had our last freeze behind us now and with mostly 60s and some rain in the forecast spring should be progressing well and we should stay ahead of schedule. Cherry blossoms here into full bloom!
