Finally some sunshine and blue skies here after days of dreary weather.

Will make the 45 minutes of light we've gained in the evenings even more noticeable

China is getting ready to go in the deep freeze again.

China: Sub-zero Beijing breaks December cold weather record
12/25/2023December 25, 2023
Quote:
A Beijing weather station has recorded more hours of sub-zero temperatures than in any year since records began in 1951. That included nine consecutive days with lows below negative 10 degrees Celsius.
Record cold and snow. Exactly the opposite of what the climate models were predicting.

Massive torch the next two weeks

Which would take us through the first half of February. However beyond that it looks as if we may be seeing a backloaded winter for the eastern two thirds

CFSv2 for February

and for March

I guess when you really think about...at least for places below 40 latitude (give or take a few miles) we really only have 4 weeks of winter left. Winter 2023/2024 has about 4 weeks/29 days to do whatever it's going to do, then it's really over for big cold or snow. By March, daily highs in the central and southern half of the USA are 50 F (10 C) or higher:
