In Tromso Norway, April began with a cold snap. After six days with no days above freezing, the last time this happened was in April 1990, when a daily cold record was broken on the second - (POR 1867).
Not sure if we've ever had more than a couple days below freezing here in April, it tends to be pretty consistently mild by this point. We are at a quite a bit lower latitude though, so although winter weather might be similar due to the jet stream being more dominant than the weak winter sun, in April, our climate starts to diverge significantly from Tromso's.
Looking back and checking - many years we don't get a single day that fails to exceed 0C. Longest stretch in the past two decades was in 2007 with four days. I'd have to look at other stations further away for older records since my station only goes back to 2004.

Yeah, it's starting to look like it's going to be a pretty warm spring. No torch heat waves on the horizon this April like in 2023, just consistently normal to above normal temperatures this April from the looks of it.
That "cold blast" at the start of the month wasn't that cold in the end, the coldest day was only 2.4F below normal daily means, and the current long term forecast doesn't have a single day below normal.
Tomorrow might be the most above normal day of the month, it's forecast to have a high/low of 68/41F, which is 16.3F above normal, that's hot, but nothing crazy considering temperature rollercoasters are the norm in the spring. The daily record (1940-2023) is 70F, so there might be a small chance at beating it.
The month as a whole is tracking towards about 2.4F above normal.
High temp was 73F here and at Midway. ORD hit 71F yesterday.
Forecast update. Not bad today and tomorrow
