Wow! thats amazing i couldnt imagine going without a thuderstorm for a year, last thunderstorm which was a week back produced a tornado and the one a week before that was amazingly lightning active, about 25 flashes a minute

You are forgetting the low pressure troughs. They pop up every two or three weeks in Victoria every Summer, lasting over several days, sometimes more, and they bring heaps of storms...

Anyway, was a nice day here. Partly cloudy day with light winds and no rain!

Well here in downtown suburbia, it rained, it was FREEZING cold and overcast and windy too. I doubt it got over 14c all day and it's about 10c out there now.

The best storm I've seen here was in December 2005. I was woken up at 2am, to the most incredible lightning show. The temp wasn't that high, maybe about 68ºF. I'd say there were about 40-60 flashes a minute - across the WHOLE sky, horizon to horizon - and it lasted for hours. It was STILL going at sunrise Apparently the storm cells that morning were topping 40,000-60,000ft and dropped 120mm (5in) of rain on some suburbs in less than 2 hours.

that event has yet to be topped.

Another morning, in November 2006, A bolt struck perhaps less than 100m away and I was outside......

I remember some genuinely spectacular lightning events form the early 2000's, and these were all combined with high heat. February 2002, 85ºF at 10pm, lightning everywhere. Bloody magic!

problem is, those troughs usually affect only the northern half of the state. They don't seem to make it down south as often

that's impressive, i've never seen anything like that except maybe when I lived in FL during a hurricane.

I remember the 2005 storms... Fantastic they were All because of a stationary low pressure system...

The troughs sometimes get enough south, sometimes...
