That 7C would probably smash records here for July. Incredible cold for this time of year if you ask me. Lowest July temp ever here was 51F.
That is a toasty record low. Here has had whole summers with the average daily low below 50F and most summers will see a light windscreen frost or two.
Had -2C two summers ago in Cromwell, while neighbouring towns got down to -4.2C. Average high for the summer was 26.5C, so a cold night or two doesn't really matter in the greater scheme.
It's 48F here for July and August for the period 1985-2016. All-time record lows for July and August are 43 and 44 in 1954 and 1955 respectively. The 50s own all kinds of low temperature records.
