For Jackson, MS, it was 27°F/-3°C on January 8, 2010. Before then, no sub-30F temperature was recorded while I was in the Jackson area.

When I lived in Detroit, I remember shoveling snow in single digit temperatures (around -15°C). I don't know what day it was on, but on consecutive days the highs were 9°F and 6°F (-13°C and -14°C).

When I was young, we once had an overnight low of -14F here in Middle TN. I can't remember what the high was that day, but I believe I recall my dad telling me it was about -3F. In recent years, I can't recall a high temp being lower than low 20s.

I've seen a daily maximum of -25 C or -13 F here in Ottawa-Gatineau on the border between Ontario and Québec. Can't remember when exactly - maybe 10 years ago or so.

I remember hearing that the guys who worked on refrigerated trucks were going inside their trucks' fridges in order to *warm up*!

The coldest was -6C on 12th Jan 1987. I wasn't born until March 1987 so the coldest I've seen is probably about -2 or -3C.

Okay, it took time and I couldn't find this forum, but someone in another forum says it was 29°F here (McAllen, TX):

//www.city-data.com/forum/18301782-post36.html

However, I could only find it to be 33°F here:

History : Weather Underground

Now here in Littleton, CO where I've only lived about 10 months here, the coldest high was -4°F on Feb 1st, 2011.

Whew!

The coldest high temperature I've seen here in Duluth is -20 F (-29 C) in 1994 and 1996.

Another very high cold temperature I've experienced here more recently include -10 F on February 4, 2007.

Damn, that is very cold for Houston.

Also, I saw Houston has an all time record low of 8 degrees that happened in 1989.

Looks like Houston is prone to winter like cold spells sometimes in December to February but the cold spells still seem kind of rare and short lived.

But at the same time it is prone to summer like warm spells in December to February too with highs into the upper 70s and 80s and it seems to happen more often than the winter like cold spells.

Houston's average high and low in December to February is roughly the mid 60s for average highs and upper 40s for average lows.
