The coldest place I've lived is where I'm living now - Sweden. And I love it... I moved here from the Netherlands in April, when it was sunny, warm and fully Spring there. I loved the flight from Amsterdam to Linköping, because as you passed Denmark you could see the 'season' line... As soon as you saw Sweden, it was frozen lakes, snowy fields, and patches of leafless birch in amidst the green forests. I had to fly back and forth a few times then and it was really fun to pop back into two different seasons so quickly.

Lake Placid...-25*F with -63*F wind-chill gusts.

In terms of bone chilling...believe it or not. Coldest felt? Tie.

(1) 52*F at night in Taiwan with near 100% humidity and zero insulation and huge cracks in my door to the outside temps and a blanket that only covered half my body
(2) Sleeping on beach in Santa Cruz without sleeping bag in Spring with 30mph blowing all night.

The real cold stuff you prepare for in a big way...

S.

true.... now that counts anyday when the temp drops below zero (doesnt have to be all day below zero)....for example high 15 low -2 would count as one day.

for this past winter season

dec 08 24 days
jan 09 24 days
feb 09 17 days
march 09 8 days

73 days in the last winter season when the temp at some point during the day was below zero (usually at night). days with highs and lows below zero may only count 3 or 4 during the winter.

Thanks for explaining, Dan and now my area doesn't seem so cold after all!

Froman, nothing like the UP to give you a weather reality check! My sister and I are 180 miles apart but that makes a major difference in our weather. We're both by the lake but my weather is way better than hers (my opinion of course, maybe not hers)!!!

I know it isn't the coldest place, but its the coldest place I have ever lived. My measure of how cold it was gets worse the longer I live here in the Southwest.

Watertown, New York. Ft Drum.

Also was an obscene amount of snow.

The coldest place I have ever lived was Northway, Alaska. I saw the temp dip down to minus 70. I also lived in a couple places in western Alaska. The temp did not get that cold, but with the windchill it was every bit as cold.

The coldest place I've ever visited is Edmonton, Alberta. I went there once during the depths of winter, but I managed to go there on a warm spell as it was slightly above freezing during the day.

The coldest place I've ever lived is the Montana Rockies. While I was living there, I once saw it snow in August...
