In the banana republic of Boca Raton, Florida, your in "easy driving distance" to Homestead, beautiful Bonita Springs, or even Sebring. If you feel real adventurous, you could go on Safari to Belle Glade or Pahokee.

If heat, traffic and a cost of living that rivals some of the most expensive areas in the United States, come join us! Do brush up on your Spanish though. By the end of that 3 - 5 year window you mentioned, Spanish will be the predominant language used south of Orlando. Until then Buenos días!
Very accurate....the biggest draw for EU tourists is the shopping...beaches and weather....that is when they vacation here....Disney in Orlando...and a few other spots.....it's not like we hae anything like Brusselsmost other EU cities....sure

This statement is not accurate at all.

The Cost of Living is just marginally higher than the US average, in fact my home town of Philadelphia is similar. And so is Jupiter. Boca is 35% cheaper than NY. Moderator cut: link removed, competitor site

Hyperbole loves the internet. I love how people get mad that living in cities where wealthy people live is expensive. Duh. Also hilarious how the internet assumes everyone is incapable of understanding their own financial capabilities or are earning low incomes.

Like Staples is going to relo an executive internationally and give them a low salary. The OP did not express financial concerns. But maybe all these ~sophisticated Americans think she's just an ignorant European.

Here is one my favorite websites to track some of the fine indigenous population of our area!

Latest Palm Beach County Arrests

One other great thing about Boca is it butts up against the Hillsboro Canal! On the other side of said canal is beautiful Broward County featuring the likes of: Lauderhill, Lauderdale Lakes, Penbroke Park, Oakland Park and of course Ft. Lauderdale! Take your pick of any of these fine neighborhoods and you will find these nice folks...

Live overhere is not cheap either. Why do you think Europeans so much while on holiday? Because american brands like Levis or Nike are much cheaper and the salestax is much lower. Gasprice in the Netherlands is madness. When I recalculate what I put in the car yesterday, to gallons/dollars... I pay around $8,50 for a gallon and that was at a bargainpump. I noticed that rentals are expensive as we need at least a 2-bedroom house with fenced garden and I saw advertisements round $2500 in the Abenezer Mizzner schooldistrict for that. But as I recalculate my mortage it is just a bit higher. And a relocation will give my husband a huge salaryraise and benefits that fits his status as it-manager/datawarehouse-specialist. So I think it is not our biggist concern. Depending on the type of visa and the new immigrationlaw there is a possibility I can get a workpermit too. I have a business bachelordegree myself, so if needed and allowed, I can find a job myself, maybe in the same company. But that isn't the plan for now. Our relocation, toddler, dog will keep me busy enough. And for a hobby and meeting people a course Spanish is always possible. I speak Dutch, English, German, a little bit French..so why not Spanish. But we go the 29th of august to see if we can and want to live there. My husband will meet some people of the company as he combines it with business and i can check out schools, talk to estateagents etc. to inform myself. I like to examine before I decide.

Give it a rest and get yourself to Montana already.

Honestly, folks who prefer the company of cows to people have no business in South Florida anyway.

Hope you learn to put chains on your BMW's tires for winter driving, lol.

You will be fine. You have all the ingredients for a successful life in Florida. Have your adventure, if it doesn't work out it's not like you're stuck.

If I had an opportunity in Europe for a few years I would jump at that chance for the experience.

Your cost of living data is not very accurate or up to date...also I am from the Philly area originally and property taxes there are more insane than here, only difference is the insurance is substantially less. Also plenty of wealthy people where I grew up..Bucks County..also in the burbs...of course if you came from North Philly than we are not on the same page......salaries pay more in and around the Philly Metro than here..if you can stomach the lifestyle..

Who said the person was an "Executive"? I never read that statement....big corporations will relocate most white collar people if you desire it.

It's not "cheap" anywhere.....its' all relative to your income.....if the job is paying $100K+ with great benefits, you will do fine here.

I ask though, why Florida? What is the incentive to move? Salary alone or lifestyle? Do you have any relatives here or elsewhere in the US?

There still is not word on the merger, Office Max's HQ is is Illinois, totally different lifestyle and climate, keep that in mind. I am sure a lot of people that work at the Boca HQ and love it here, are on thin ice now.....plus would be Chicago is only 30 miles away and a ton of culture and etc..that is non-existent here...

Don't you think if the OP's husband works for OfficeDepot Europe, that his job situation is likely to be just as likely to include changes no matter what if there's major restructuring or consolidation?

America is not a one way entry point.

Why Florida? That is where Office Depot can send us to at the moment and that's the easiest way to get a visa and a start. We like the States, our vacations there are still subject of our conversations and dreams. That is why I'm concerned, chasing a dream can be a nightmare in real live. We have no relatives or friends in the USA and do we really want to leave our life overhere. My grandmother is 85, if we go I don't think I see her alive in person again if we go. But she says that we don't need to put it on hold for her account, she knows what skype is..she said. But it's a dream and I can't say why. We went to Canada in combination with USA and felt home when we drove over the Canadian/USA-border in Waterton-Glacier.

We are not that "cultural" but maybe there is a difference in what I understand of culture and what you do. Amsterdam has a lot of concerts, festivals, theatre, museums...the last time I was in Amsterdam is at least 4 years a go. But every major town has there own theatre, cinema and a festival overhere. Only the big international headliners will give one or two concerts in a city with a big stage which is at 1 to 2, 5 hours drive depending on location.
