Okay, about a year ago I thought I was moving to Delray Beach, but things didn't work out that way and I am still living in Gainesville, Florida. Now I know for certain that I will be moving to the Palm Beach County area for approximately 14 months starting in May 2010. I will be working and going to school in Palm Beach Gardens.

I am looking for advice on where to live so that I can be near the beach but still a reasonable commute to Palm Beach Gardens. My free time is very important to me and I would prefer to drive a little farther for work/school and be biking or walking distance to the water--I'm an avid surfer.

Difficult issues
1. I'm going to be on a very limited budget for the year
2. I have three dogs...two are little non-shedding dogs (less than 10lbs each) but one is very big and sheds and I don't want him to be in the house

Is it even possible to find small houses/cottages for rent that would allow pets and have a fenced area for an outdoor dog (there are plenty of places like that in towns like Gainesville, but not sure about in the south)? And, if there are houses for rent, are they all vacation rental types? I would really rather not spend more than 1000 per month maximum. Don't know if that is even possible near the water.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

check out juno beach. I live in palm beach gardens, and I drive to juno beach every morning to the dunkin donuts (its about a 5 minutes drive straight down donald ross rd).

Juno beach I believe has a dog friendly beach as well. I like it over there, theres more to do in palm beach gardens though.

Okay so I'm still trying to figure out how to use this forum...maybe I should have posted the following reply here:

Are there places to live in Palm Beach Gardens besides apartments? Worried about the big dog...

If it is a 5 min drive, is it close enough to bike or is traffic too dangerous?

Thanks for the help.

BTW, I am coming to the area this weekend to start the process...any suggestions on a reasonable place to stay (hotel, condo, b&b, hostel) near the beach while I'm in town?
