We were coming back from Frederick, Md., on Route 340. Saturday nite, 11/17/18. Major jam up. Waited like 30 mins or so., some cars turned around. We sat for another 5 mins., then driver decided to turn around and go through via Virginia route. I kept looking through The Journal, but did not see anything about what caused the traffic situation to be so backed up at that particular time. A quick search of The Herald, nothing there either.

That's typical on weekdays...but certainly unusual for a Saturday.

I don't recall anything specific that day, but I do know they've been doing repainting and changing reflectors on 340 through that area.

They were doing it Wednesday (yup...the day before Thanksgiving ).

To quote a WTOP traffic reporter on the mess..."There has to be a better time".
