The other component in White Plains, however, is the sales tax, which is a key reason why the taxes are so low. Commercial interests know how to grieve taxes, that's for sure, but the sales tax collected by the city, currently 2.5%, IIRC, helps to keep the property taxes lower than other areas in Westchester, especially given the depth of the retail sector in White Plains.

@Streetsmart: Best of luck with your upcoming move. I am sure that you will find Mamaroneck to be much more family-oriented, or I should say an area with more actively-engaged parents.
