Hello,

One of my friends (one is a pediatrician the other is a psychologist/researcher) wants to move to East Westchester (e.g., Larchmont, Harrison, Rye) and would like to move into a community largely comprised of Latinos. They would like to send their sons to private school or to a high rated public school system with large percentage of Latinos/Persons of Color in their staff and within the student population. I can understand the desire to want their children to connect culturally with staff and students.

I've lived in this area for a while and I have yet come across such a community or school system-- we live in one of those towns and send our daughter to a private school and I believe she is the only person of color in the entire school (staff and student population included). Does anyone know of such a community? I am sure they would be open to other towns in Westchester.

Thank you in advance!

Port Chester is prolly the most Latino area in Westchester

Riverdale in the Bronx may be a good fit as well

Mamaroneck looks to be the best bet for what they are looking for: https://data.nysed.gov/profile.php?instid=800000035433

https://data.democratandchronicle.co...maroneck-ufsd/ You can view the break down at the school level as well.

This can help give a relatively recent and rough idea in terms of a Hispanic/Latino community that is upper middle class as well: New York Median Hispanic Household Income School District Rank Based on ACS 2010-2014 data

Another district that may work is Pelham. Its Hispanic student percentage isn't as high(still almost 16%), but the Hispanic population is more affluent and the Hispanic teacher percentage is the same as of 2018-2019 info. https://data.nysed.gov/profile.php?instid=800000034999

Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow has a large hispanic community, some of whom are upper middle class. I know that's not eastern Westchester, but it's still worth considering if this is important to your client.

You can find student enrollment data at the NY State website. The search function in the upper-right hand corner is very easy to use. This isn't the full population of a town but it at least gives the student demographic breakdown.

Mamaroneck incorporates Mamaroneck & Larchment. As a whole, it's 20.8% Hispanic/Latino students.

https://data.nysed.gov/profile.php?instid=800000035433

Mamaroneck Elementary is 52.3% Hispanic/Latino.

https://data.nysed.gov/profile.php?instid=800000035436

The other elementary schools are a lot less: Central, Murray Ave, Chatsworth

Rye Neck is 20.2%

https://data.nysed.gov/profile.php?instid=800000034983

Harrison is 18%.

https://data.nysed.gov/profile.php?instid=800000035425

However, a large % of this population is located in West Harrison, 42.3% in Samuel Preston Elemetary.

https://data.nysed.gov/profile.php?instid=800000035430

I wouldn't recommend Rye City, it's 6.9%.

https://data.nysed.gov/profile.php?instid=800000035005

As others have mentioned, Portchester is 79.6%.

https://data.nysed.gov/profile.php?instid=800000034957

New Rochelle is just South of Larchmont and also has a large Hispanic/Latino population at 47.1%

https://data.nysed.gov/profile.php?instid=800000035159

White Plains is more central southern Westchester (Harlem line) but it has a 57.1% population so that might be an option.

In terms of an elementary school, Hutchinson in northern Pelham has a pretty high Hispanic percentage, while being quite diverse in general: https://data.nysed.gov/profile.php?instid=800000055805

Here are the teacher demographics for the school: https://data.democratandchronicle.co...hinson-school/

Thank you for the teacher link. Here is the link for all of Westchester, where you can drill down on each individual school district and school.

Check out the Western side of Greenwich CT, where a natural population of immigrants from Port Chester have moved after accumulating wealth; there are also a number of wealthy South Americans that have moved into this area in recent years. However, these schools are also the lowest ranking in Greenwich because of comparative demographics.
