We are looking for house in Westchester (we live in Westchster now) and we like Yorktown and Somers. Both schools seems nice and not too far to NYC (I'm working in NYC). It seems like Yorktown taxes are more expensive than Somers and we are considering Somers. Since our children came from European and Asian family, we would like to raise our children in socio-economic and cultural diversity situation. If anyone konws about either Yorktown or Somers about the diversiy, please let me know.

By reputation, Somers isn't especially racially diverse. That said, our daughter is also from Asia, and we are seriously considering a move to Somers.

in my immediate somers neighborhood there is an Asian family with a daughter and another family who adopted a little girl from China. Both girls have plenty of friends & nobody bats an eye at the family who adopted. in my experience, the town may not be as diverse as other areas of westchester, but everyone i've come across is friendly and welcoming to all neighbors.

Since you also asked about Yorktown:

I think I answered an identical question about Yorktown recently. It is not a hotbed of diversity by any means, but there is a fair amount of ethnic diversity. There's a sizable Asian population and a fair number of recent European immigrants (Armenian and Eastern Europe mostly). The huge IBM compound in Yorktown attracts a diverse array of families. In three years of elementary school, my son's class has always had a fair degree of diversity, with at least a few African-Americans, Latinos, Asians (including Indians), and kids from other countries. While the majority of his classmates and friends are Caucasian, there is (to my mind) enough diversity to instill an awareness and appreciation of differences and distinct cultural backgrounds.

Also, as I think I said in the other post, Yorktown has a large degree of socio-economic diversity, which I hugely appreciate. I love that my son's friends' parents run the gamut from artists to lawyers to writers to firefighters.
