My husband and I are looking to move and we've been eyeing Peekskill for a little bit. We like the diversity and artsy feel. However, we are a little concerned with the school system. We both currently live in The Bronx (Throgs Neck area) and we are satisfied with the schools here. Are Peekskill schools any different from schools in the northern section of The Bronx?
I think that it largely depends upon what schools you have had in District 8. If you're coming from the background of say an MS 101, PS 34 or PS 306, the schools in Peekskill do not perform as well as those schools in District 8. If you are comparing from other schools in the district, then Peekskill is on par, though may have comparatively fewer resources for some children. That's not to say that a motivated child, with parental involvement, would not succeed at this school, but one may find themselves in a situation where they need to supplement educational resources and/or work with the teacher for children who perform above grade level, since it might be difficult to keep them sufficiently motivated when not in a class with their academic peers.
Don't forget, from 80s trivia land, that Langley College that was also in Peekskill, not to mention Edna's Edibles and the mid-80s replacement after the fire. Can you tell I had an older sibling obsessed with TFOL?

Peekskill schools are much safer. At least the teachers in Peekskill arent walking out the school along with the students when the bell rings. Peekskill also has an afterschool program and a breakfast program. I believe the breakfast program is at 7 or 7:30 am, for parents who need to leave their kids in a safe environment when they have to leave for work early. I believe the afterschool program is till 6 or 6:30pm. Dont pay much attention to people who are down on the Peekskill school system, they dont live here nor do their kids go to these school they are just going by hearsay. There are also many really nice apartments and homes in Peekskill in nice areas. I was born and raised here we never had any real problems with the school system nor the people.
