I'm looking at a job in W. Nyack, and also looking at places nearby that would make sense for a young, single guy to live (nowhere in Nyack really seems attractive). White Plains seems to be a good option, as transportation into the city is relatively easy. The question is simple: is the commute over the Tappan Zee Bridge into Rockland in the morning, and back into Westchester in the afternoon, feasible? What is traffic like in those directions? I know absolutely nothing about traffic patterns in these areas.
You'd be reverse commuting which is generally OK on that road. Except for the stray accident it'd be fine. If you allowed a 1/2 hour I think you'd have time to spare. You can always check it on the web. Google NYC traffic.
You're in a reverse commute situation, so traffic delays will be minimal. I have crossed the Tappan Zee early when I had to take one of the cars for servicing, and have had no problems at all. 287 can be a little slow, in places, leaving White Plains, but once past the traffic in that area, and in WP, itself, the commute is relatively easy.

I lived in Nyack when I was young and single... I enjoyed it. But I guess it's not for everyone.
As others have said, the "reverse commute" should be fine on most days. If there is an accident or construction, you will headaches. But most days, it shouldn't be a problem.
