My family is vacationing at a cabin in W. Jefferson for Christmas and I was interested in knowing what travel will be like from Raleigh around that time. Last year we vacationed in Sylva and were in for a treat once we arrived! (we are pretty naive when it comes to driving in the mountains). The drive there was fine but the cabin was located on a mountain side, along a one lane road with a VERY steep driveway that was a sheet of ice. There were a few 4WD vehicles in our group that had no problem, but there were a few of us without them and it became a big (scary) event our first night there, to say the least.
So my question is, will we face similar conditions on our drive to Jefferson? The cabin is said to be located at the entrance of New River State Park, if that helps. Will we fair well in a minivan and sedan?
