That was my first response to the post too!
I think Blowing Rock is classy. And it has everything. Access to trails, Blue Ridge, Moses Cone Park, great biking. OUtdoorsy beautiful area plus nice little town with great places to eat, and the elevation. Oh, the elevation!

More mountains & trees. I also hate taking the interstate because of that, nothing to look at but mountains & trees. If I wanted to see mountains & trees I could look out any window in my home.

I am quite sure I am the only one who feels that way. I can understand the appeal of it for those who did not grow up & spend their entire lives looking at it. But for me, the thrill is gone
Oh good grief

What I remember of Blowing Rock was the actual tourist trap in which you pay to walk out on a ledge and throw coins over the side hoping they would be blown back up.

I think the blowing rock comment was to the actual tourist trap thing. Which i agree is tacky. and I also second biltmore. The prices have gotten ridiculous. In fact, its a few dollars shy of a ticket to disney for the day....thats sad, especially just to walk through somones house....

I know the area has turned around & is now one of the most trendy & desirable places in Asheville & is nothing like it use to be even 5 years ago, but I just can not shake the feelings I have had about that area all my life. The only time I ever go out there is when I am with someone else & they take me out there, but to this day I have yet to ever eat or shop at any of the business on Haywood Rd other than Ingles & the gas station right off I-240
Yeah, now it's full of hipster noodle shops and hippie clothing stores, haha. It's waaay different from what it was like when I was a kid, but you're right, it's changed dramatically in even the past five years.
