My wife and I are also moving to Asheville in a couple of months and have been looking around for the right fit for us. We're also torn between being more in town, where we can walk everywhere, to finding a nice spot outside of town where there's lots of green and a nice yard for a dog and a garden. We need a place that's gay-friendly, or at least warm in the "live and let live" sense. Right now we're contemplating a place near mission hospital, and even a place way out in fletcher. Can anyone give us any advice on either of those places?

Thanks so much!

There is no such thing as "way out in Fletcher". ???

Have you ever been here? You won't get anything "country" near downtown Asheville. Have you looked in Weaverville? just a bit north of Asheville and lovely, about 15 mins to Mission Hospital. A 30 minute drive from anywhere to anywhere else here is no big deal. Are you going to work at Mission Hospital, or need to be close to it? There are also other excellent hospitals here. ParDee in Hendersonville and Park Ridge Hospital in Naples which is just a stone's throw from Fletcher. Fletcher has no "town" per se. Either does Arden. We designate by "county" here. Parts of Fletcher are in Henderson County, and parts are in Buncombe (high tax) County. Cane Creek, Hooper's Creek area, Livingston Farms, and the Fairview area, are all beautiful and within 20 mins. of Mission Hospital either on the interstate, or a bit longer on Rt. 25.

If you are talking about Kenilworth when you say near the hospitals, it is an interesting neighborhood, but it is not consistent as relates to people and quality of homes, you'll have to walk a few blocks in each direction to get a correct feel for the house you like. It is indeed convenient, especially if you'll be in and out of the hospital a lot, but there are a number of other good neighborhoods, I favor just north of downtown, that you should include in your home search, altho you cannot expect to walk to the hospitals from up there, altho biking is not out of the question even with all the hills, but the ride is much shorter than coming in from Fletcher. As for walking to downtown from Kenilworth, it is a bit of a walk, but buses do go up and down Biltmore Avenue up to a certain hour, so while it's not as close as North Asheville to town, it's not impossibly far either. As for choosing a town-type area over a suburbia type area, it's all a matter of what you like and are used to. Hope this bit of info helps.

depends if your looking bang for your buck on properties, well if you wish to pay a load for a home that is out dated and you wont be able to sell if you move, then go for it

are you a warlock or witch, then it is a perfect fit then

Hospitals, are you suicidal, or do you want to collect life insurance on your wife so you can run off with some hotty? Then Mission Hospital is the place to go. better yet if you are looking for gov assistance, you can pick up some nasty diseases at Mission Hospital "Mercer, etc"

lastly NO Tiger Woods is not moving there or Obama either

watch your check book if you have a couple pennies to rub together
