I was just wondering how far you have to drive to get to oh say... Sams Club, Olive Garden, a Mall, Ross, TJ Max. I live 1 1/2 hours from all of these now and it seems like a cruel joke that Im moving into place where it might be farther. I prefer not to go to Asheville I dont like it there. Funny thing is is that I hate nountains..... Thanks for any help at all... Also what are the schools like in Macon county? thanks again...

Used to live in Seneca, SC just one hour south of Highlands, NC. I visited Macon County quite a bit.

Macon County is fantastic for those desire the mountains - though it's somewhat isolated.

You did not state what city (in Macon County) you will be relocating to. Nevertheless, Franklin to Asheville is at least an hour and 20 minute drive.

For bigger city amenities: the drive from Franklin to Greenville, SC is 2 hours. It's 2 and 1/2 hours to Chattanooga, Atlanta (city center), and Knoxville. The drive from Franklin to the Mall of Georgia is under 2 hours.

I know you don't like the mountains but consider yourself lucky - this part of NC is fantastic with endless outdoor activities and great, local amenities.

An aside: in this economy, please stay away from chains and spend your well-deserved money in local stores and restaurants. Franklin/Highlands have some great, local retail.
