I would be interested in what you've narrowed down to. We do not have the same budget as you, nor need a fab lake view, but we are also Floridians (and I went to SU) and we've been tramping around the Western NC mountain areas for years and STILL haven't landed either.

My hot buttons are mountain views, golf available, and a cute/charming town to call home. I've more or less narrowed it down to Asheville/Hendersonville/Flat Rock, but we may revisit the Cliffs Valley community also, as it's within 1 hr. of Asheville and half hr. of Greenville. We would like a place where we could do weekend trips to a "big little city" for culture and whatnot every once in awhile.
We live on Skaneateles now and have property up for sale. Looks like Lake Keowee will be our next destination. Will sell The Villages too.
Would like the Cliffs or The Reserve but not sure I am prepared to spend that much to play golf. Going al a carte in Crescent community on Keowee is next choice and being a member at Creek Side Plantation is another choice as is Keowee Key. This will be my last stop so need to get it right.
Asheville area might be too cold and Florida is too hot. Expect to have only one residence

I used to live in the Seneca/Walhalla area in a Lake Keowee community - what a fantastic, pristine lake! If you desire one residence, this is ideal (not having to commute back and forth between NC and FL). Much warmer in the winter than western NC and not as hot in the summer as inland FL. Use the extra money and buy a nice boat!
