Hi, I am looking for an area around Asheville that is more on the new side. New homes, shopping plazas etc. I not one who is into old or antique/historic etc. Are there any areas like this I could check out? I currently live in Arizona and we may be looking to move. Any help would be appreciated. I'm basically looking for an area that has recently been developed and has new stuff still coming. We have 11 yrs old that will be going to middle school so that is important as well. Other then that we aren't n need of night life or anything like that really just places to shop and go to dinner. I have seen the area of flat rock which I found when looking at tiny home communities but it seems like maybe its older or there isn't alot around and not anything new as far as shopping goes. Thank you for your help!

I think you're looking for Charlotte! It's very new/rebuilt. Not in the mountains, but it is an easy day trip.

Yea doesn’t sound like you know much at all about the area and it doesn’t sound like what you are looking for.

If you are able to take a spring or summer vacation, that is the only way you can judge an area. Boots on the ground; and don't spend too much time in the touristy areas. You can easily do about a 25 mile or so radius outside the Asheville area, get a good map and make that big circle. Do the same for the Charlotte area, as a previous poster said, that may be more your cup of tea. I have to ask: why were you looking at tiny home communities, and were you actually here to look at them, and to also visit the Flat Rock area? Flat Rock is very historical, as are most of the towns here in WNC. The south has a lot of Civil War history, and Flat Rock has designated areas with signs saying so. Lots of hospitality, great restaurants and beautiful arts and crafts abound.

Greenville SC could also be attractive to you, lots of growth, not a lot of history as far as I know. Some very nice areas, lots of entertainment, great restaurants, beautiful subdivisions. Could be what you are looking for. No idea about the schools, must be pretty good, Greenville is growing as we speak.

Greenville SC (not NC) is a good suggestion. It's mountain-ish, and sounds like it might be more your cup of tea with shopping and new development.

Look at the area around Biltmore Park Town Square. Thats a ten year old mixed-use development with several newish housing areas around it. Here are some Google streetviews:

Yes, I was just going to mention this. I think this is the only place I can think of, honestly. It's a very nice area if that is what you prefer. Asheville is pretty much the opposite of what the OP is asking.

Yes, Charlotte has it for sure. Someone mentioned Greenville, SC. Parts of Greenville and Simpsonville, SC maybe an option.

What is your budget? I saw someone mention Biltmore Park as an option and I would agree, but it is not cheap...

If you are looking for a higher end area with really new construction and amenities, check out Reynolds Mountain in Woodfin. There is a brand new shopping center at Senator Reynolds Road and North Merrimon Ave. Also tons of new housing surrounding it. It is a little more pricey up there, but very nice.

South Asheville is also developing quite a bit. It may be a little more budget friendly. Do expect traffic down there during commute hours.
