Never been, always wanted to visit. Finally going to visit for a 2-3 days in in a few weeks. I would like to walk around, visit some tasty restaurants and a few breweries, maybe gaze at some artsie fartsie shops, maybe go for a hike, and generally be a tourist. So what part of town do I stay in? Downtown? River Arts District? Etc.?

Thank you!

Will you be in Asheville? There are a lot of nice hotels downtown.

Yes, will be in Asheville. So downtown is the place to stay as a visitor/tourist?

Seriously—— the Aloft is nice and near galleries, music venues, great restaurants, and a brewery or two. There are countless possibilities. Just put a few up on your dartboard and close your eyes. Problem solved.

Really like the Aloft. We have stayed there; it is very nice and conveniently located. The view of the mountains from the rooftop is amazing.

Did just that - threw a dart. Landed on Crowne Plaza. Hope it's a decent choice.

Crown Plaza is fine but it's not in downtown but very close. It's just outside of downtown so you will either have to Uber or drive to downtown. Then you can wander downtown. Check out the drum circle at Pritchard Park on Friday evening. The South Slope has multiple breweries. Plenty of restaurants depending on what you like. The shops are typically open til about 6. As for a hike, Bent Creek is closeby or you can go to Brevard but that's at least an hour away. If you have a free day, you can go to the RAD and The Foundation to see the art on the buildings. Lastly, check out Haywood Rd in West Asheville for an evening or Sunday brunch. Lots to do!

Have fun!

The Crown Plaza is well outside the downtown district. I would change up and try the Hotel Indigo which is very highly rated and a bargain price for location. https://www.ihg.com/hotelindigo/hote...N-_-US-_-AVLIN

The Aloft is really nice, but pricey.

You can probably get a better deal at the Four Points by Sheraton. It certainly isn't as fancy, but could save several hundred dollars easily on a few days stay.

I'd personally stay out of downtown as I'm not a huge fan for many reasons. Biltmore area has some very nice places plus you've got Grove Park Inn which is one of the better places in the state. You can always Uber to downtown to eat and check out breweries and shops.
