I'm just curious about this, when I was in Maggie Valley last month the Christmas decorations were still up at the end of January, is it because it's still winter? Does everyone in North Carolina keep the decorations up that long? I was just wondering.

As a mountain town, they might be aping Gatlinburg. Lights go up in November and don't come down until February, though they call it "Winterfest" there http://eventsgatlinburg.com/

Some folk keep up all year. They can become Birthday celebration lights, July 4th Lights etc etc... They change depending on the season.
I don't think it's a North Carolina thing. I have had neighbors up north leave them up right into the summer. A few times I wanted to say to them why are you wasting your time taking them down it's almost time to put them back up. LOL
