My Grandfather lived in Europe 40 years ago. He hated it, all Europe must suck now.

I lived in Hemet, California for 8 months. It sucked, it all must suck now.

I love your logic, let's continue.

I ate a burger once, I got sick, all burgers must suck now.

One time I got a flat tire in Missouri, that made me hate it, all Missouri sucks now.

Thanks for the output/rant - input? ... I'll scratch it off my bucket list...

There are lots of places with not much to offer, jobs, shopping, entertainment, housing, schools, COL etc. All add up to a happy camper but if you are only (stuck) for a few years then instead of being miserable start researching the places you think you want to live. Start making your plans now and work on fulfilling them when the time comes. Enjoy the time you have with what you got. There isn't any more time. Once it's gone it's gone!!!!!!!

I moved here around 6 years ago. During that time, Wichita has actually expanded. The smaller local towns (Goddard, Bel Aire, etc) have gotten bigger. There's actually a building boom. New places are being built. It is NOTHING like it was 30 years ago. A friend of mine who had been living here for nearly 15 years left around 3 years ago. He moved to DC then had to visit this town because his relatives, all, live here. He actually got lost a few times! That's how much it has changed. The Wichita downtown district is called the "Old Town" Welcome to Old Town | OldtownWichita.com has become the rocking place to be the last few years. Do I want to truly settle down here? I honestly don't know because my wife is from here and her family live here. I'm going to school right now so after school, let's see what happens. I have to say this town is ideal for families because the driving distance is not too horrible and you can get around fairly easy. I came from Austin, TX where 1-3 hours in the morning and afternoons were not exactly uncommon. I got tired of driving so much and got tired of having to fill up my gas tank WEEKLY! I only do gas refills 2 times a month at the most and less mileage too. That's something to consider.

Ok. Move. It's still a relatively free country and we don't have Gulags, yet, so pack up your belongings and mosey on out to wherever you believe the greener pastures are.
