I love this! When research profs (the "high-paid" ones are in the sciences and fields like econ/business) get multi-million-dollar grants, they bring in so much money that they often have the option of "buying out" one of their classes so that they have more time to do the research.

So yeah, Walker should punish profs for bringing in way more money than the state actually pays them. Makes sense! Perfect for developing R&D in the state! Brilliant!

And most of that minority are at Madison. In spite of Walker's cuts to UW and the government in general, Madison's economy is doing well. I wonder if the appearance of high-tech, health, and other firms adding to the economy there (and paying taxes to the state) have anything to do with UW-Madison's high-paid profs who focus on research and development?

Exactly.

The notion that all professors should be actively teaching to be valuable is about as myopic as it gets.

Exactly. There is a reason schools like UW-Madison are called RESEARCH universities...

Unfortunately Walker is doing his best to damage that reputation. I think last year was the first time in over 40 years that UW Madison wasn't in the top five research universities.

He has to go. Enough of the damage!

Another democratic candidate has joined the field. Mike Crute . . . so the total is up to 15! Also, good ol Tom Barrett is thinking of running again.

It's perplexing-- It's like Walker and his supporters want UW-Madison to be at the level of the University of Idaho. Not that Idaho's a bad school, but it isn't world class. If Wisconsin doesn't want its researchers, I'm sure California, Texas, and other states will be happy to have them.

It's already happening. Professors that UW has tried to recruit have shunned the University due to the state's policies. The system is missing out on great minds.

Of course, where does job growth come from? Companies formed out of the R&D these minds do, and how is Wisconsin's job growth in fields and wages that actually pay decently? Crummy.

But Walker is at best a college drop out, and more than likely he was pushed out. Its clear why he has a disdain for education.

If the Dems nominate Tom Barrett, I’m out.
