You'd survive at any college, but avoid UW-Madison if you don't want to be surrounded by intense liberalism on daily basis.

Kat, sorry, can't agree with you on that. If one is looking for a political debate or argument, I agree that you will be able to find it. But the kids at UW, day to day, are focused on their studies, meeting boys/girls, how the team is doing, where to go out for some action, the typical stuff.
Sorry, the campus world does not revolve around politics.

All she said is that you're surrounded by it, not that Madison's or the university's whole world revolves around politics.

I didn't even attend UW and I still felt like I was surrounded by liberalism on a daily basis: protests; conversations at pubs; the hippie drum circles; local daily or weekly publications be they university-affiliated, conventional media or independent; the fliers on every kiosk from your various left-leaning organizations; the implicit and sometimes explicit political leanings of certain businesses such as feminist bookstores and "fair trade" coffee shops and the like.

It may not feel like being surrounded by liberalism if you are a liberal, in which case you may be missing the forest for the trees. For those who are not liberal, Madison's overarching liberalism is obvious. There are ways to minimize your interaction with overbearing people and institutions that want to bombard you with their liberalism if you'd rather not be bothered. But short of being a hermit or otherwise having no awareness of your surroundings, there's no way to ignore that you're surrounded by it.

It depends on what you mean by conservative.

I'm independent and question what is conservative about republicans or liberal about democrats.

If you go to a State College it would be partialy funded by tax money. Kind of liberal if you ask me. I hope a good education more important than being a republican if not I suggest you go somewhere else.

As a Madisonian I would disagree with the idea that you couldn't be accepted here. I live neer and work with several Republicans and although we sometimes disagree on issues we do not get in each others face about it. Same with Democrats and others.

Nope. The entire student body is comprised of Hell-bound heathens, all 40-some thousand of 'em. Faculty and staff too.

Funny! Why I mention this is partly because UW's reputation. Its good that it is so diverse! I may come across as narrow minded, but I am open minded and really it doesnt matter what environment I am in...but heck I certainly want to make friends too that have similar values as me. Let me be a bit more specific...is there a christian organization on campus?

I mean I want to be able to say "hey yea i am a christian!" and not have people run the other direction!

I am sure i'll find some friends who have similar views as me, but it just never hurts to ask an alumni or current student attending UW-Madison
