I'm sorry for your troubles, he sounds like such a jerk. It's so unfair when we're slandered when it's not true.
Honestly, I hear you in that you want to stay within that company and work your way up, but it sounds like it's just not going to work out. I know you have invested time into this company and don't want to start from scratch again with a new place. However, this guy seems to have it out for you, and you may just have to chalk this up as one of life's (unfair) experiences and move on to another company. 7 months is not a huge huge amount of time (better than 7 years!) and if you move on, before you know it you'll have worked that much time somewhere else and won't have this jerk to deal with. He'll get his too, believe me!
Agree you should fight back. People have no idea what a nightmare a vindictive former boss can be. 7 month employment gap no big deal, really? Because I just had a hiring manger tell me I am only interested if you are currently employed and that was after being out of work 3 months! It's extremely difficult to find a job. Sure maybe the OP should consider another chain but getting blackballed is the kiss of death when you apply for a new job.

Exactly. He has put me in such a financial bind I cannot even begin to tell you. I cannot use him as a reference ANYWHERE. Trust me, nowadays managers want to know why you haven't been working.
And I also don't appreciate the fact that he made me look like a POS to this other manager. It isn't right.
But, as has been pointed out, she worked at Outback for only seven months. That's hardly a career. And she may be determined not to be rehirable because of her attitude in the wheelchair situation. It would be a lot easier for her to get a job at another restaurant.
Did you read that thread? If not, search for it and read it. I do not think it was her "attitude" that caused the problems she encountered that day.
OSI owns several different restaurant chains. Straightening this out could actually mean the difference between employment and non-employment at a 'different' chain othee than Outback.
Yes I was very very upset and couldn't understand why something more wasn't done. My propreitor told me at the end of the night I had an attitude and I was like WTF do you expect from me??? I've made NO MONEY on 1 of 2 busy nights out of the week!!!
This is why it's happening. This is what you wrote in the wheelchair thread.
OF COURSE you were frustrated, what server wouldn't be frustrated by what happened in that incident. Yes, it was b.s. Yes, you did get jacked out of the potential for good tips that night. I completely understand why you were upset. I also know, it happens. It happens and servers have to roll with the punches.
BUT
You cannot display an attitude like that to your proprietor. You can't have an attitude when talking to them about it afterwards. You said in that thread that you went at it or that you gave it to him or something along those lines. And then you put in your two weeks notice right after.
I guarantee you that it was viewed as you putting in your notice in a huff. Your last impression on your boss was an attitude and that is what he is going to tell people. It's not slander. It's what he saw. That's also why corporate will back him. You lost the opportunity for more money that night but the attitude lost you more. (In the future, hold it in, deal with them in a pleasant manner and come to City Data and vent to us. WE get it, they do NOT nor do they care.)
Doesn't the company have an HR department? Why don't you just put the HR department as the contact from here on out? That's what I do. (Yes, in the "Immediate Supervisor" space.) If they want to verify my employment, they can contact HR who knows how to handle talking about past employees. The only time I will ever put an immediate boss on the resume is if I know they can give me a good reference or, in the case of one job, the boss was the owner, manager, HR, supervisor, everything and there is no other person to put down.
While HR can say what they wish, (as long as it's true), MANY of them will NOT say anything other than the dates you worked there.
Try it this way with Bonefish Grill. See what happens if you put HR down there and not your manager who did not have your back that night. (I really do understand why you were upset...just saying it was handled wrong...even though I know damn good and well, I may very well have done the same, it doesn't mean it was right.)
