New Orleans, ehh? Unless you know someone in this town that can get you a job, consider moving out of state or going back to school. There are virtually no opportunities for kids with regular BS degrees. Most of my peers that went to Ben Franklin and went to college are working on higher degrees or moved out of state where there are more opportunities.

If you graduate from a no-name school with a mediocre GPA and no connections, it's not surprising that you'd still be unemployed. You're correct in that the fact that you've been unemployed for so long makes you somewhat of a leper to employers. There is simply no good reason that you could give for why you've been jobless so long, you should've at least taken some minimum-wage job to show that you won't just sit around and do nothing. The only thing that would really help you at this point is going back to school.

I disagree with everythign you are saying here, because the fact is, there's people who have college degrees, have worked in their fields for years on years, got laid off, and are ALSO not able to find jobs, since the economy STINKS now!

It's got nothing to do with her, or her "lack" of motivation. And if she's not being able to find work, and is hard up for money to tell her to go BACK to school and take out ANOTHER student loan and be under MORE debt is NOT good advice!

Come to Connecticut. There's a state senator, Gary LeBeau who actually passed a law recently saying that employers could NOT refuse to hire someone because they'd not been working for a long time!

I think that's a great law! It's true the employers are so picky as to WHOM they hire, but to be honest with you, I see so many dishonest & disreputable employees, at least in retail stores, that I certainly think employers would do good to hire NEW people not keep the same old, young "snippy" employees they have now!

So.. come to a state where they allow that type of law to be in existence.. It's cheaper to live in Connecticut than in New York City too.
I don't know what part of NY you're in and I'm not going to invade your privacy and ask you that, but it's very expensive to live in NYC if that's where you are living.
I know so many people, including myself who have filed applications over & over and not found decent jobs or even jobs at all, so don't feel you are alone in that boat, OP!
There is a ton of people who are going thru the same situation you are.

And there's NO reason that employers insist on hiring the YOUNGEST people possible to do their jobs! I see so many rude, snippy very young employees myself, that I start to NOT shop or do business in that store or business anymore to be quite honest.
i'd much rather deal with a person in their middle 20s, who has some grasp of manners than someone just out of college who doesn't know how to treat their customers or clients properly!
Good luck to you, OP!

I think it is a silly law, which nobody will ever enforce.

..thats in your town though. New Orleans is dry when it comes to employment...especially if you don't have an
in with knowing someone. I've lived here and after graduation..the most I was able to get were short term temp assignments at the convention center. The manager always made it seem like if I was a good employee..I would reap rewards. Never happenend. I decided to work for myself and build my own business. I'm making more now than any employer would pay me.

..and people seem to think you can just rush into any fast food place and get a job. If you are not their "type"..you don't get hired.

OP should consider moving.

It really stinks that they go for new grads like they do but you're right, it's like you have herpes or something. They ASSume there MUST be something wrong with YOU that you haven't found work. It couldn't be anything like the economy, could it?

I would get another degree. Since you already have one, alot of those credits should be applicable, it might only take you one year, and to employers you will just look highly educated and/or scholarly. What field are you in now?

kinda of don't know what to do now beside maybe jump off a cliff..i have thought about going back to school to delay time and then drop out as soon as i get an offer, but i escaped debt the first time i'm scared to risk again and still end up unemployed (however if someone said you can go for this low price i'd totally go!)..

i have considered lowering my standards but still can't get hired..tried networking...tried the internship route , i did 3 in my field still no luck..maybe i should learn a trade? idk..maybe i should become a nun..or start dressing up nice and start looking for a rich husband? or wh*ring...

and i have a degree in business is anyone wants to know..

anyone have any suggestion
What's your background and have you been to some interviews?

The best thing you can do for yourself if your
unemployed is get into a inexpensive job
training course that can possibly place you
into a job once completed.

I'm currently trying to do one myself.
