I wake up at 6:30 every morning and usually go to bed between 11:30 and midnight.
Its not really enough, especially since I don't immediately fall asleep most of the time.
Planning on moving closer to work, bringing my commute from 45 minutes to 15 minutes. Gonna add that extra half hour onto sleep and I think that would be close to ideal. I just cant get to sleep prior to 11:30 or so.
When I get home I have to try and split up my phone and internet time. If the internet is active then I may not log off until 1am.
Usually I can get 7-8 hours sleep but there's very little border time. Mine is 8 hours, plus lunch, plus a 1-1.5 commute each way.
I make the next day's breakfast & lunch along with dinner. This gives me time for one errand/day (or workout/meditation/etc) If I want to meet up with friends during weekdays then I just get dinner with them.
Any lost sleep I make up on the weekend. I don't drink much anymore because it interferes with sleep, even on the weekends.
I work 8 to 5. On average I get 5 hours of sleep. A lot of that has to do with my noisy neighbor. Only a few more months to go on my lease...
Runner up would have to be commute time, which is 45 minutes each way. By the time I get home I have maybe 3 hours max to do all the things I need to get done before it's time for bed and the process repeats. I would love to get more sleep, but between my neighbor and personal pursuit to overhaul my career, it's just not happening.
My usual schedule:
Bed @ 11:30
Up @ 5:30
At work by 8:10
Off work @ 5
At home @ 6
Repeat.

That sounds pretty normal, particularly when you have such a long commute which eats into the "free" time you have. The meeting up with friends for dinner is pretty normal for most on that sort of a schedule. It sounds as though the OP doesn't allow any time for that between the hours he finds it necessary to spend on the internet/telephone from the time he gets home until the time he eventually gets to bed. Maybe he has a part time job which necessitates such attachment to the devices but if that's all he does it doesn't sound like a very healthy allocation of time.

I work 7-3:30, and during the week go to bed by 9:30. I get up at 4:30 so I have tome for a nice cup of coffee and go online (like now) before work. Normally that means about 7 hours sleep which is plenty for me.
When I worked a 9-5 job in Manhattan, I went to bed around 10PM, up at 6:30 and out the door between 7:30 -7:45. If I don't get enough sleep, I feel like I'm working against myself.
Now I work from home, and it's an entirely different ballgame. Without worrying about a rush hour commute, or getting all dolled up, I can be available between ten to twelve hours a day.
I work 6 to 2 and I still get 7-8 hours of sleep. Yes, I go to sleep at 9. I spend about 20 minutes to get ready and head straight for the car 1st thing in the morning and eat breakfast at the office. Commute is about 50 miles one way but there's seldom any traffic these hours and doable in less than 1 hr.
I get 6 to 8 depending on the night, however, with an infant it's never uninterrupted sleep.
Anything less than 6 and I'm a zombie and mistake prone at work. Some people can get away with it, I can't. And more coffee just makes me feel sick to my stomach, nervous, and still tired.
I work 8-5, does that count? Are there really employers out there that still pay for your lunch break?
Anyhow... I get about 6 hours sleep per night during the week. Stay up to watch the news and Letterman monologue. Asleep by 12, up at 6. I do make up for it on weekends though, sleeping as late as 10. I would be always exhausted if I didn't get th
