There are some companies that I'm interested in working for who have a production department in their head office and branches. I'm not sure how to best word this at the beginning of my cover letter. Here's one idea:

Please see enclosed a copy of my resume, with which I am applying for a position within the production department of one of your branches.

It just doesn't sound right to me. Does anyone know a better way to word it? Do you think I should just write it as if I'm just applying to one location and when speaking to the manager when I apply, I let him know which branches interest me?

Are these posted jobs? Or are you just sending a resume?

I would go with 'I would like to apply for a position within the production department with X company.' Then go on to explain WHY/what you bring to the job and then at the end 'I have attached my resume for your review but would be happy to answer any questions directly. You can reach my at (phone#)'

Or something along those lines...

This. Don't go overboard, but write a few sentences / brief paragraph on why you are a suitable candidate. Look at the requirements of the job description, and say something about how you meet or exceed those requirements. For example, if a requirement of the position, "Experience with X", say something about your experience with X.; if it requires heavy lifting, tell them how much you can lift at a time, etc.

Use that cover letter to sell yourself. Give them a reason to want to look at your resume.

Actually, there is no job posting. I'm applying to all nearby companies that interest me. It's not useless, because I do get calls and interviews.
