In some respects that could be true, as I did ask to move away from a colleague three weeks before this happened because of the way she was talking to me. She happens to do all the work for the only producer there. But that doesn't change the fact that the company lost 50% of its book and it's top producer in the state the week before this happened. So I'm sure there were political reasons for getting rid of me and they did it once they no longer had a need for me (I did all the work for the Producer who left) and with the loss of additional accounts there was less need for me. I also know a lot of my work was scheduled to be moved to Mumbai and that te underwriting is being centralized in Chicago. So yeah, I know there were political reasons. I just wish they wouldn't have done it this way. I hardly think asking to move away from a colleague who told me to find a new job and that my job adds no value is worth termination. Of course, she does all the work for the only remaining producer so it makes sense to get rid of me to not risk losing her. i get that. Now how do I explain that.
I'm going with the laid off case. The lesson learned I guess is don't get on the bad side of catty women and then complain about it
I think you guys are right I probably am making too much of this. The reality is that is a sales office. Even if that website does say I'm not eligible for rehire I can say that their reason for getting rid of me was because I wasn't effectively helping the sales staff sell the service. I know that a lot of the producers there had difficulty understanding what the numbers meant. I came from a bigger consulting firm where we used Actuarial models to value health care plans and practically no one at the office knew the difference between an incurred and paid claim. There's always ways to spin this even in the worse case scenario. I can still admit to being fired and basically say it was the salespeople's incompetence (of course not in that manner )
If you were terminated without cause, that's even better. You have it easy. Now, you got a severance package, unemployment insurance, and a nice vacation. I never get anything of that, when I change jobs.
The messed up part about this is that they're saying I was terminated with cause, but they won't contest unemployment and still gave me severance. That's why this whole thing doesn't make sense.
I've struggled with this since it happened because their reason doesn't make sense. I know that the employer is going to direct future employers to the work number just like my prior one. My only concern is if someone at the company wanted to get rid of me this badly, who is to say that they won't inform my new employer that I was really fired than laid off (discretely).
I'm going to get around this by giving the number to HR as they know the policy. If I give my supervisor, I know that she will direct them to this number, but I'm afraid she'll tell the person who wanted to get rid of me who called for me. The insurance world is so very small and it definitely appears that someone wanted to do me harm. I don't know if that's just a salesman's personality that they are that ruthless. HR is in Chicago and I'm hoping they don't relay back to that sales office what company called about me. This is of course me being overly paranoid again....I hope.

Yes, it is.
Stop worrying so much. Your old employer is busy selling insurance, not plotting how to destroy you.
TWN does not say eligible for rehire or not. It just has company/employer names and dates and salary information needs to be initiated by the subject.
My report has an entry from a prior employer that indicates if the termination was voluntary or involuntary. It appears to be a standard, but optional, field.
Probably being paranoid again...but in every application I fill out there is a disclaimer saying that I release from all liability anything my prior employer may say about me. Do you think if it's company policy they'll still refer everything to the work number even with that signed? I certainly hope so.
I am an Associate in the Society of Actuaries...thankfully, that field is in demand. It will feel good to take their clients as I'm not in any need of signing that severance agreement. I'll just be frank with the competitors - I was let go without cause here's my personnel file that has great reviews, here is the bonus check I received, if they have a reason for firing me you tell me what it is.
