you dont like those jobs in medicine/nursing? it is a quick way into that fed job you keep talking about

Degrees don't move people forward these days either. Basically they do nothing other than a very select few degrees which will soon be oversaturated themselves.

Getting hired for good jobs are basically factors outside of a person's control. You can't force anyone to hire you

Nursing and medicine isn't about "death and sickness all the time." It's about people.

Its about Sick people and dying people. Sounds depressing to be around that for 30 years at all hours of the day. There isn't any amount of money you could pay me to be in that environment for decades

God bless you if you have the consistution for that. Just being in a hospital waiting room gives me anxiety

Computer Science is a good deal now but probably won't be in the future. Engineering? Jobs are gone to India, Pakistan, China, wherever. All thats left are temp deals with no benefits.

Liberal Art degrees or BA's. Useless. Waste of money. You will ultimately end up doing a job that only requires a HS diploma
Positive post of the day. Very encouraging.

Well why lie to people. Someone needs to tell these kids the truth. Before they go and spend a bazillion dollars on useless degrees

You're better off getting in the trades or some kind of federal employment
Nonesense. I got a bachelor's degree in Accounting in 2013. My yearly salary is 3 times my total tuition cost. Well worth it...

"Those jobs won't be here in the future."
So what?? They are here now and won't be gone overnight. If someone were to start learning computer programming today, he has a fair chance at earning a living from it for years to come.

We live in an ever changing world. Jobs have always been disappearing for one reason or another. Those who learn how to adapt will always be alright.

A humanities degree develops skills in writing, critical thinking, analysis, visual analysis and communication. Those are skills you need for lots of jobs. A quick google search turns up plenty of information about what you can do with a degree in the Humanities:
25 Great Jobs for Humanities Majors

One big advantage of a humanities/liberal arts degree, over a more technical one such as nursing or computer science, is that you can move from one area to another. What if you get a highly-specific degree, and then don't like working in that field or the jobs dry up? You can't transition. Liberal arts gives you transferable skills.

Every degree program learns those skills. Yes, a good individual can market themselves with those skills, but they are far from limited to only humanities degrees. STEM degrees are not either/or, but both/and.

Yeah... LA degrees certainly don't have a monopoly on critical thinking and effective communication.

Anyway in regards to the BGS in humanities, on the surface it would probably qualify as "generic college degree". You know when the job application requires "just any degree" as opposed to degree in X.

So in terms of opening up opportunities , you can probably land the generic data entry, customer service/support, clerical assistant type role. Anything of higher pay or more specialized is either going to require a degree in X OR someone taking a chance on you even though your degree and or experience is not exactly the perfect fit for the position.
