Rule at my job is you must be at work the day before and the day after the holiday to get paid. I understand that. I know that. Fine.

However, is this 100% black and white or can exceptions be made? I was at the ER Sunday night and didn't come to work on Monday. Came in today with a doctor's note but they don't care. So now I lost holiday pay plus Monday's pay. Just curious if these rules are made to be broken or if it's a law or whatever.

And please don't be nasty with your response. I'm asking because I am curious and want to know if you've ever experienced something like this where an exception was made.

Thanks in advance!

it's as flexible as your employer wants it to be. honestly, why would you think this would be a law? it's a company policy, nothing more.

Ok cool. That's what I needed to hear. I think I might talk to someone tomorrow to see if I can at least get one of those days paid.
Appreciate it, old fed.

I wouldn't do that. You knew the policy and you may come off as being stupid or a trouble maker.

Talk to whomever you want, but policy is policy. Your payroll dept will override your boss when it comes to payroll policy.

You missed work so you shouldn't get paid, but if you have PTO you need to utilize that (again something payroll will do automatically) . There's no way you deserve holiday pay for sitting in the ED and then sitting at home. Note or no note, an unscheduled absence is an unscheduled absence.

My employer requires me to be in paid status, meaning PTO is okay. Did you not have any PTO?

I had 30 hours of PTO. They’re taking 24 from me.
