Another vote for the retractable ones. I had one I clipped to my pants pocket. Had to replace it about once a year because I fiddled with it all the time though.
our company lanyard are held together with a magnet, so if machine catches it, it comes right off. Mine I got a retractorable yoyo, but most of the time, I leave it and the id in the car
We have retractable reels...Love them way more then the simple klip on holders....Too many though kept playing with them and finally management said "Max replaced at 2 a year. After that, you pay $5".....
I agree. There are numerous people out there that would be more than happy to have your job, and not complain about wearing a lanyard with badges on it.
That's great, but this thread is about people out there that do have a job and therefore can talk about the annoyances of lanyards on that job if they so desire.
I wear one, though not the official branded one. Mostly because it's too easy for me to lose the retractable clips.
At my current company and my previous employer, lanyards are "required". From day 1 at each employer I haven't worn it (I keep my badge in my wallet and just wave my wallet near the sensor when I need to get through a door) and nobody has said anything to me.
I understand that this may not be possible in many places, but it works more often than you might think.
This has been my M.O. at places I have worked. I only "wore" the lanyard if it was necessary like trade shows. Most of time having it in my wallet or in my pocket separate from wallet was sufficient.
OP, I gather you are quite mobile throughout the day and pass through many areas of differing 'access'?
I am curious if you think various types of biometric scans would make you feel any less of a 'slave' in the work environment?
Well, since you're a Slave, ask your owner what they want.
Tell your master that there are holders designed to hold several access/ID cards along with any electronic attachments. The ones I distribute holds 8 cards at a time with 2 being displayable. There is a attachable electronic key or button holder. Four of the card slots are designed for chip or mag strip use. The holder can be a clip, retractable, lanyard or pocket sleeve depending on the users desire.
But, since you're a Slave, you need to learn to shut up and do what you're told as your not up to their level to get all uppity.
