I just made an example that journalists and researchers use sites like these to perform studies and get content for their pieces.

So no I am not wasting my company's time...
Yes, I'm also a journalist and that's why I'm here.

I noticed how you conveniently ignored HokieFan's inquiry about what it is you do and how much you make.

I don't believe you. I believe that you're here wasting company time on the Internet while you bash professional educators for whining about their workloads and pay. The irony is rich.

Both yours and thatsright's arguments are pathetic, weak, hypocritical, and disingenuous. You should be ashamed that you're here playing around on the web while mocking an entire profession and the legitimate concerns that are facing it.

I'm a Business Analyst. Though I'm not the one claiming that I'm worth more because I work harder, so not sure that it's relevant.

has nothing to do with working hard. I would think the better more productive analysts at your co make more than the worse lesser productive ones, yes?

Teachers are probably the hardest working people out there. They don't deserve more for that. They don't have a level of productivity they need to attain.

I am paid by my productivity. I get raises and bonuses based on how well I perform.

If teachers in your area are not getting paid based on their performance but only bc of cost of living... then it makes sense they would be paid less. COL doesn't go up that much but if someone is amazingly productive a certain year, they should get more $$ for that.

teachers have no way to measure their productivity, therefore paying them based on COL is fair.

They ARE NOT paid according to COL though. My fiance makes less than $50k/yr, teaching STEM at the secondary level, in a metro where the median home value is north of $500k.

Um no. I'm proving a point that people use CD not only to waste time at work. Some people use it for other reasons.

I find it ironic you are telling me I am wasting time on CD @ work.. aren't you doing the same thing?

I happen to be off today, I am taking care of my mother, as she just had a knee replacement. She is sleeping right now.

Isn't it a bit hypocritical though to jump on someone else for "wasting their co's time" when you are likely doing the same?

Absolutely, I am wasting time on CDF. I have no problem admitting that. But once again, I'm not the one claiming to the masses that I'm worth more than professional educators because my output is somehow more meaningful.

Default This is my overall point

Teachers are underpaid in certain areas, because their salaries are determined by cheapskate voters who don't value education or the profession of educating, not by supply/demand of the market forces for their skills. If it were determined by market forces, people who are baby sitting your kids and teaching them Physics, Calculus, Computer Science, Engineering, etc., should be getting paid $$$ because they offer in demand skill sets in the general labor market.

Now I'm tired of defending this point against the litany of poor arguments from people who have no association or understanding of this profession they are mocking and belittling. So I'm out. Have fun with your Schadenfreude party.
