No. Heck, if I were given ONE million I wouldn't work, since I'm close to retirement and my house is paid off.

$10,000,000 doesn't go far enough to justify leaving work altogether. Not before having kids and still fairly early in my career with a cancer history.

I'd go back to school for an MSW and become a social worker - a career I never got the chance to pursue because it pays so little. That would provide health insurance and help me continue to contribute to retirement savings.

A lottery win would just mean I could structure my life in a way that was meaningful, rather than a way that helps me be as financially secure as possible.

Of course I would. I don't work cause I need money.

Besides, most of the $10M would be spent on housing. There was a nice building for sale last year downtown for $10 million...

I already give the money my wife and I don't need to my kids. That wouldn't change.

Goal is to have $5 million for retirement. So the retirement would be paid for. I would still work and continue to build my retirement.

I live in California. If someone gave me $10 million today 36% would be taken by the IRS and the State of California would take 13.05%.

What I would end up with is $5,095,000 which is what it would take to fund my retirement account.

Nice work, if I could get it!
You are in San Francisco. How long can you live on $1million
