We've been working from home for 3 weeks now and are fully functional with video conferencing and calls. Our manager must feel lonely at his house because he's forcing us to have mandatory team video chats at 8AM every other day. In these calls we have to do a roundtable and show our kids and pets. Then when others are talking, we have to watch their kids and pets and pretend to be interested. I'm sorry but I really don't care to hear my coworker's little Emma talk about what she did yesterday in her playroom to pass the time. And then we have to tell our coworkers how cute their kids are (even when it's not true). This is torture and has to be against corporate policy, or law.
While it's not professional, he may be showing signs of depression and anxiety with the situation. It's especially bad for workaholics with no social life outside of work.
I would not be surprised, if there is a spike in anti-depressant prescriptions across the country.
I would say 90% already telecommute at my job. But we all have to come into the office at least once a week. No talk so far to let us WFH all the time. Nor about forcing those who don't WFH now to start doing it.
About 3 weeks ago we were allowed to WFH 100%. And my building closed about 2 weeks ago. Not that there were much choice, the city is under a shelter at home directive. Now everyone who can telecommute must do so.
Most everyone who works in public service or utilities which includes but is not limited to military, police, fire, corrections, water, sewer, electric, and trash. You can throw the post office in there as well.
Health care involves much more than docs and nurses.
Anyone not in that list is what's recommended to be non-essential right now.
