All round the world, from Asia to Europe to South America, men wear short swimming suits. It seems only in US and Canada, men have to wear their ridiculously long and baggy shorts in the pool. from a practical point of view, aren't they heavy once in the water?
What are they afraid of? On the other hand, women can wear next to nothing but it seems totally fine. Why are men so conservative? Is it because most men are fat and therefore this tradition?

They are just not popular here and are hard to buy, i actually have a pair of speedos and gone to the beach with them and the looks on peoples face are priceless.

Speedos are seen as 'gay' in America, apparently, since sexualizing the male body might turn other males on.
It's the same here in Australia. Those boardshorts do get heavy when they get waterlogged. In fact I'm thinking of buying a pair of short short cossies if I can find them.
Because about 20 years ago, Michael Jordan started wearing long basketball shorts, instead of the standard short shorts. It became cool. Now everyone wears long shorts and swim trunks.

The male body is de-sexualized in the US. Even the male celebrities here considered sexy are made more androgynous -- always a shaved chest, perfect hair, etc.
Speedos would certainly seem much more comfortable for men. In Australia, boardies are far more common. Women will wear them too sometimes, especially when bodyboarding.
The little bathing suits for men are called "Budgie Smugglers" in Australia, so they're viewed as a bit of a joke.
Only worn by surf lifesavers because boardies would get in the way of saving drowning people. Or the other people who wear them in Australia are fat, hairy old men of European descent, usually worn with black socks and brown sandals.
Speedos are comfortable, but some of us would look abnormal in speedos and the looks would be a little much so that's where modesty is a bit more important.
It is interesting, actually, that men's shorts and swimming suits here are so long. It is rediculous to conclude that such a thing is necessary to keep your "junk" from hanging out.
Sorry guys but many times when seeing these not short, shorts, I recall women's dresses. I think the were called culottes "a pair of women's knee-length shorts, cut to resemble a skirt" and would feel like a ***** wearing them, not that there is anything wrong with being a cross dresser if that is your thing.
The fashion and style setting that introduced this extreme modesty would be interesting as it wasn't always so. Maybe as suggested it was popularized by some sports hero.
