Anyway.
Around here the two words are just synonyms, although I've had people from Latin America correct me when I use "Castellano" to refer to my language 'cause I'm from Spain.
In fact I used to find it odd how they call the language "Spanish" (Mostly because among valencian speakers we call it "castellà" instead of "espanyol") but after spending years living mostly around Castilian speakers I got used to call it "Español"
That statement isn't meant to offend Spain has several co-official languages why is it that only one of them considered Spanish? The language most people call Spanish is in fact Castilian which I find to be a beautiful language.

I understand it might not be meant as an offensive thing but some people can be a little touchy with this.
Language is a complicated thing in this country. There's a bit of a war going on between Valencian and Catalan, too. It's really sad...

I studied one year of Latin American Spanish and almost two years of french. Each sounds beautiful. What I find annoying with Spanish is the pronunciation of g before i or e, j, the double l "ll", and even y and, like in french, the letter h is silent. I like that written spanish is more phonetic.

I don't care for rapid speech. It makes the language sound ugly. Neither is very slow speech pleasant after a while. Normal rate of speaking with some animation is best.

Valencià is a dialect of Catalan.

I enjoy the sound of the French language more. But I will say I like the sound of Spanish as well.

Not sure I can vote one way or the other. I believe it's mostly in the way the person speaks it and maybe some in the way the other person perceives it from that particular person. Young loves, and physical attractions. Nasally vs non-nasally, where the later has the upper edge. Regional dialects that aren't as familiar to the other person can get them possibly turned on because of the difference as something different can be more exciting.
