"It's" instead of "its" for the possessive use of the term.

More a pure grammatical error than a spelling error though.

Not knowing when to use "a" and "an" is also a common mistake.

The word I misspell the most if "of", every time I type it I have to correct it because I type it "fo" first and I mean literally every time I use that word.

Not true at all, I have spelled that word wrong since 3rd grade, for some reason I just cannot get it right and I am not illiterate nor am I poorly educated. I just cannot seem to spell that word properly.

So that I'm used to a language in which nearly every word is spelled as it is read, for me English spelling it's just crazy. In fact when I write in English I have to use some kind of dictionary to check the spelling of what I'm writing. For example writing today I had to check the spelling for "typical" (I never remember to use the y) and "irrelevant" (I tried to write "irrilevant", because of a linguistic interference. In fact the Italian for it is "irrilevante").

I have to start to study English more seriously...

Yeah, that's (a, an) Rx for bad usage.

I use to think that on the contrary, it's easier. As Italian and Finnish is read how it's written, we focus more on correct spelling. Or at least that's my gut feeling.

How about immigrate / emigrate? That seems to be quite hard too.
