All these penalties - such as the death penalty, imprisonment and numerous disrespects for the freedom of belief and faith, were reality in Christian countries until very recently.
When politics and religion mix the reaction is always explosive, regardless of religion, whatever it is. The still existing violence in Islamic countries is due to mixing of religion with politics. The result was no less disastrous in the West when religion and politics were also mixed.
The goal of these countries should be a separation of religion and state, not the criticism of the religion. This will never lead to anything.

I think Davy meant the Balkans is backward compared to Western Europe. Probably because it was part of the Ottoman Empire for so long.

Tunisia and Bangladesh are among those few countries.

In countries like Saudi Arabia and the Emirates, a Muslim who renounces Islam, or converts to another religion, can face the death penalty. I reallly can't understand why countries like these are considered any different of North Korea...
Good find.

I was thinking the other day that I never heard of any terrorism coming out of Bangladesh. Maybe the people there are more moderate then many other Muslim countries.

I don't have any problem with that.

In Islamic countries, you are perfectly free to be any religion, unless your are born a Muslim, in which case you are considered to be a Muslim. If you are born a Muslim and cease to believe, just keep your mouth shut, which will keep you out of trouble in any country.
Yeah, trying simply being a Christian, a Jew, a Hindu or a Shia Muslim in ISIS controlled areas of Syria or Iraq for example. Or in northern Nigeria, parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan. See how long "complete freedom of religion" gets you.

Greece hasn't been part of the Western World for the last 500+ years.

But before USA destabilization of Iraq all those religion, especially Christian lived side by side for centuries with no problem. ISIS is the new kid in block but Middle east muslim nation is home to many Christian not for a year or few decades, these people lived for centuries. If it was always this bad (as bad as isis) these people would have moved out long time ago

Bangladesh is a democratic country, and Islam in Bangladesh is much more moderate than in the Arab world.

The current Prime Minister of Bangladesh is a woman, Sheikh Hasina.

But gays in Bangladesh may go to jail, just like in neighboring India that is not a Muslim-majority country...

Bangladesh does have a "blasphemy" law, but apostasy from Islam is not punishable by law.
