Chicoutimi (I know this because in the late 80s there was this tv serial about hockey players and they often talked about the team from Chicoutimi...it was a strange name and never forgotten it)
yeah, right, I had a crush on Marilou , one of the female charachters, I was a kid...
Ah yes, Marilou. She was beautifully exotic. Played by Sophie Renoir (great-grand-daughter of the French painter Auguste Renoir), and I believe the only cast member who was not from Quebec.
Interesting anecdote: during the first years of the series, it was broadcast simultaneously on French and English networks in Canada, and in one episode Sophie Renoir appeared topless - but only on the French network. It was censored on the English network! This caused a bit of a controversy but the decision was maintained.
The English broadcasts of the series were never very popular and were dropped after a few seasons only.
Bravo for French accents and dashes in the right places and for not writing Iqualuit.
BTW, Hull no longer exists as a city as it's been merged and is now known as Gatineau.
And now that I think of it Chicoutimi (from Italian Lurker's post) no longer "exists" either. It's now known as Saguenay.
Accents in French and Spanish are very easy to remember for some reason. But not in Italian, as I have no idea what their function are.
