Northern Alaska. I loved Christmas when I lived there because it was the first place Santa stopped. He left extra presents to lighten his load.

Few places in the world do Christmas Lights and Spirit like Colombian cities (and in the case of Cartagena - New Year's Eve especially). Medellin and Cali both made the Conde Nest listing of best places to celebrate Christmas in the world.

A few of the stand-out traditions:

7th December: Day of candle-light
To celebrate Mary's ascension into Heaven children light candles in lanterns and place them all over the streets with their families in Colombia and this is not in one designated part of the cities but literally all over towns, streets, sidewalks, roads and parks across all towns and cities.

16-24 December: Novenas and the Nativity Scene
In the 9 days leading up to Christmas families gather every day after work to pray and sing hymns around a nativity scene. The nativity scene is usually the central focal point as opposed to a tree which will also be present but the nativity scene, which the whole family get involved in building, is still king! Public 'Novenas' also take place in the town squares.

6th January: Three Kings Day
Another day (the traditional day) of gift giving to celebrate the arrival of the Three Kings.

MEDELLIN X-Mas Lights

Tradition of turning on the lights in Cali...

CALI X-Mas Lights

This carol belongs to the world. It was written by an american songwriter based on a czech folk song. In Brazil it’s mostly unknown, but for some reason it’s quite popular in Spanish speaking countries. Curiously, the first time when I listened to this song, it was sung in German under the title “Brauner Teddybär” (Brown Teddy Bear), and that lyrics have nothing to do with Christmas.
