I also hate the graffiti tags with offenses against rival teams. They're all over the place in Sofia. Many are of the "D*ck for FC [one of the two largest soccer teams]" type.
l Brazilians generally like either football (soccer) or motor sport.
Pelé and Ayrton Senna are national heroes in Brazil.
I'm much more into motor sports than into football, although it fell from popularity since the death of Senna. The excelence of brazilian drivers in motor sports is currently not in the F1, but in Formula E, but Lucas di Grassi, our most oustanding driver, is still far from being a legend like Senna. Furthermore, Brazil had a short time of popularity in tennis, when Gustavo Kuerten was in the top in the ATP ranking and managed to win the Roland Garros tournament for three times.
And about Senna and Pelé, I'll tell that Senna is the real hero of our sports, one of our most beloved personalities. Pelé is far of being unanimity. The World Cup of 1970 - the last one won by Pelé - was 51 years ago and most of people alive didn't see him playing, while he is often bashed due to a bad behaviour towards a daughter out of the marriage whom he refused to acknowledge; so people look to him more as a "bad example of father" than as an idol; while Senna was dead in the peak of the carreer and had no time to get into any scandal.
so sick and tired of this argument any sport can be played at low cost but difference is football soccer is exiting sport and that is why people play and nba nfl mlb are just boring and that is why nobody cares about it. ball cost the same nfl ball, basketball can play with soccer ball basebal, can be played with tennis ball and on and on. only sports where you need a facility is tennis racket and hockey ice so this b.s. soccer is popular because it is cheap does not hold water
Don't take it so personally. The fact that soccer is accessible is a key driver of uptake. It is cheap and can be played anywhere and with no special skill required. Simplicity is a major benefit to its growth.

Why get offended that it is a simple, low cost sport?
Even the least skilled person can still kick a ball to someone. A child can often do it before they can even walk. The fact that it is so basic and inclusive of even the kids who are unable to throw, catch or hit with bat/racquet etc (hand/eye co-ordination being a much higher level developmental capability), is one of its greatest strengths and keys to it's popularity and ongoing success.
Because it's the best/better. List of things that are better:
Gold > bronze;
Diamonds > emeralds;
Versace > Nike;
Ferrari > Tesla;
Italian > French;
China > Yughurs;
Bitcoin > Dollar;
Music > all arts.
etc etc. Football is still the most dynamic game and the one that everyone with 10$ bucks in the pocket can play in any climate, try that with hockey or baseball or American football.
All you need to play American Football is the ball. Everything else is optional. Even baseball is relatively cheap. Hockey, ill give you that one.

It's a lot easier throwing a rugby ball or a cricket ball than it is kicking a football!! I say that as an Englishman that likes both football and rugby (not so much cricket) that's obviously played all those sports! Rugby is FAR easier to play.

I'd say passing a rugby ball or throwing a cricket ball are on par from a fundamental skill perspective as kicking a soccer ball. And that may be a worthwhile point if they were the almost singular physical skill required as kicking a ball is in soccer. But Rugby and Cricket and baseball and hockey and on and on, are sports with multifaceted skillset requirements. Much more than soccer.
Now I'm not saying top line soccer players aren't immensely skilled. Of course they are. But we are talking about barriers to entry to various sports, and from a skill perspective, soccer is objectively one of the lowest skill bars. Maybe walking and running are easier as they are singular in physical skillset requirement... But yes, top level soccer players are very very good at kicking the ball.
A kid learning soccer, just needs to be able to run and kick (and then stick the most unskilled one in the goal). A kid playing Rugby has to run, kick, pass with the hand, catch, tackle, scrum, ruck, maul, lineout. It is why the early years, the rules need to be heavily modified, much more so than soccer. The cricket kid has to learn perhaps the most unnatural action in sport; bowling the ball, batting, throwing, catching, running between wickets. It is chalk and cheese with regard to learning the physical skills of the respective sports.
If you lined up 100 able bodied people who had never seen or practiced the skills of those sports, 100 of them would be able to kick a soccer ball, hardly any at all hit a baseball, bowl a cricket ball on the pitch, drop kick a rugby ball or control a hockey puck. And those are just one of the fundamental skills required to be successful at the other sports.
I love it when Americans say that soccer is boring
But the most popular sports in the US are football and baseball
In football you have high scores because touchdowns are worth 6 points
Based on that logic, basketball is 10 times better because they score points every 20 seconds.
Baseball … the sport where most of the action is “what are fans doing to stay awake during the game?”

Your argument can be said about any sport
It’s easy to play any sport at an amateur level … not so easy at a professional level
Take for example ping-pong, one of my favorite sports
Anybody can play it with their friends … now try playing it against a professional player and you’ll be crying after 5 minutes
